1. 강좌소개(Introduction)
이 강좌는 한국의 근대 철강산업이 어떻게 시작하였고, 어떤 발전 과정을 거쳐 현재에 이르고 있는지를 살펴본다. 일제시기 일본이 이식한 철강산업이 만든 식민성과 근대성의 중첩, 해방 후 일본인이 사라지면서 나타난 자본과 기술의 큰 공백, 설상가상으로 남북분단에 따른 주력 제철소의 상실, 그리고 한국전쟁에 따른 파괴, 자립경제의 슬로건 하에 역대 정권에서 변함없이 추진된 종합제철소 건설을 위한 노력, 그리고 마침내 포항제철의 건설과 급격한 성장 과정 등이 주요 내용이다. 이 강좌는 이러한 한국 근대 철강산업의 역사 궤적을 따라가면서 근대, 식민, 해방, 분단, 전쟁, 경제개발, 고도성장 등 한국 근현대사의 관점에서도 중요한 키워드들을 다시 생각해보는 시간이 될 것이다.
This course examines the origins and evolution of Korea’s modern steel industry, highlighting its transformation from the colonial period to the present day. Key topics include the intertwined legacies of colonialism and modernization, the capital and technology gaps after liberation, the impact of the Korean Peninsula’s division and the Korean War, and sustained government efforts toward economic self-reliance, culminating in the rapid growth of POSCO.
Through this historical lens, the course also invites reflection on major themes in Korea’s modern history, including modernization, colonialism, liberation, division, war, and economic development.
